9. Claude Monet’s garden, Giverny, North of France

Claude Monet’s magnificent garden is located in Giverny, in the north of France. This garden is divided into two parts, a flower garden and a water garden. The famous French impressionist painter Claude Monet is the one who designed this breathtakingly beautiful garden.

Claude Monet and his family moved to Giverny in 1883. He loved life in a quiet and beautiful place. Inspired by his numerous Japanese paintings, Monet decided to renovate his garden.

Claude began the design of his new garden in 1890. After a lot of work, he managed to divert the river near his house, in order to make a beautiful pond garden. He also built a bridge to cross the river and filled the pond with water lilies.

Today, you can see many willows on the bank of the pond. The small bridge, which is covered with beautiful wisteria, is truly a breathtaking scene, and the clear water reflects beautifully the flowers of the surroundings.

The flower garden, in front of Monet’s house, has got a mix of many flowers from different species. The climbing roses are one of the main attractions, but there are also a number of fruit trees in the garden.
