Becoming a soldier

Once war had been declared, the Japanese Empire started recruiting all those who could fight. Hiroo received a letter summoning him to an army medical exam. Hiroo was doubtful that he’d passed the medical because since he’d moved to China, he smoked 50 cigarettes a day and was quite the party boy. But to his surprise, he was enrolled into the Japanese army. Hiroo was proud to be able to fight for his country and was immediately sent to Nakayama to incorporate the 61st Infantry Brigade. Hiroo trained harder than his comrades, during both training and his free time, the others tend to do the bare minimum. The young soldier wanted to be at his best not only for himself and war effort but for the whole of the Japanese Empire. His hard work paid off.
